Hotels charge their customers for the hotel room, and the services given to them by their staff. Most hotels since early 1980’s charge their customers according to the rules used by the British. Regardless when a person checks in- he/she has to check out by 12 noon the next day or pay the extra room rent for the day. In simpler words, if a person checks in the hotel at 2 PM, then he would have to pay the room’s rent for one day if he checks out before 12 noon the following day. In this case, people had to pay double the money if they decided to extend their stay in the hotel past 12 noon.

Adapting to the new custom, hotels now follow a 24 Hour checkout system. In this case, if the person checks into the hotel at 2 PM, then he would have to leave at or before 2 PM the next day if he wants to pay the rent for one day only. This is certainly a better option as compared to the one previously followed. This allows the customer to stay at their room for 24 Hours.

If a person were to check into a hotel at 5 PM and the hotel would follow 12 noon check out system, then he would pay the room’s rent for duration of 19 hours. But if the hotel were to follow the 24 Hour checkout system, then he wouldn’t incur any sort of loss.

This is certainly the better option for travelers as it gives maximum value for money. Also, it also allows visitors to relax. Hotel owners are gently adapting this option as travelers find this option better. This option is much liked by the customer. However, if a hotel follows 12 Noon check out system and the customer only has use the room for 7-8 hours, then he/she can negotiate with the Manager of the hotel. In such cases, customers usually end up paying half the rent of the room. The manager would even agree for a lesser amount depending upon various factors such as negotiation skills, availability of rooms among many others. The most important factor is whether it is tourist season or not. If the tourist season is ongoing, then the hotel manager wouldn’t agree on giving the room for half day. Also, if the hotel follows 12 Noon check out system, it would stand firmly on its policy as in tourist season, people generally tend to stay at the hotel for a longer duration and the hotel would choose a person who would stay for a longer duration than a person who would just stay for 12-14 hours.
